Copy individual rules across indexes

Learn how you can quickly copy rules across multiple indexes

Merchandisers can copy individual Searchandising rules for Search and Browse across multiple indexes.

This allows them to save considerable time as they can quickly create or edit rules in an index, and then copy that rule to one or more indexes, all from the same screen. Copying individual rules is also a great alternative to our Bulk Rule Copying tool as it allows merchandisers to push smaller, more granular changes across indexes.

📘

What if my indexes are in different languages?

If you copy a rule between indexes with different languages, the rule will copy in the language of the source index. You will need to edit the copied rules in the destination index to make changes to the language.

Step 1: Locate a rule to copy

  1. Select Workspace in the side menu of your Constructor dashboard.
  2. Select Searchandising.
  3. Choose either Search & Autosuggest or Browse at the top of the listing to access the rule you wish to copy.
  4. Locate the rule, then select the three-dot icon on the far right of the rule row.
  5. Select the copy (middle) icon from the options display.

Step 2: Choose target indexes

  1. On the pop-up, select your copy options:
    • Rule type: Choose which type of rules to copy. Learn more about rule types here.
      • All. Will include rules auto-generated by Constructor and rules created by your team.
      • Automatic. Will only include rules generated by Constructor’s algorithms.
      • Manual. Will only include rules generated by your team.
    • Copy to: Choose which index(es) to copy the rule to. Select the checkbox to the left of each index you wish to copy the rule to, then select Add to add those indexes to the copy task.
  2. Select Continue in the bottom-right corner of the pop-up.
  3. Review the target indexes listed on the following page, then select Start in the bottom-right corner of the pop-up.

A note on rule replacement

Copying a rule to a target index will delete and replace any existing rules in that index. Changes are irreversible.

Rule conflicts

If a rule conflicts with an existing campaign in a target index, then a notification will appear on the Copy rules pop-up with details of the conflict.

You can choose to resolve the conflict or proceed with the rule copying process. Please note that conflicting rules will not be copied.

A message notifying the user of a slotting rule conflict

For example, in the preceding screenshot, a merchandiser created a slot rule in their Production index to place a specific product in the #1 slot of their Summer campaign. However, they are attempting to copy rules that also contain a slot rule for the #1 slot. This notification alerts them to that conflict.

The merchandiser has two options:

  1. Resolve the conflict. They can go into their Production index, open the Summer campaign, and remove the slotting rule for the #1 spot.
  2. Proceed with copying rules. They can start the rule copying process with the understanding that Constructor will not copy the slotting rule for the #1 slot but will copy all other automatic and/or manual rules.
